Wildlife Microhabitat Mapping
While the urban environment was built for humans, it also represents an important habitat for various wildlife species.
The University of Arizona Wildlife Microhabitat Mapping project, (led by PI Mackenzie Waller and Co-PI’s Elise Gornish, Kathleen L Prudic, and Kenny H. Wong) awarded $10,000, seeks to identify the locations and attributes of urban wildlife habitats in order to further research and understanding in the field.
Using the University of Arizona as an initial study area, the mapping project will identify variables that are either a help or a hindrance to wildlife populations. Establishing locations and “heat maps” of wildlife populations will then allow the analysis of possible high-quality and low-quality zones and the potential impacts of the nearby built environment. This geospatial information can then be used for informing decisions
