Project Summary

This project includes the development of a "Rural Pharmacy Safe Zone", in collaboration with
UArizona College of Pharmacy Rural Health Professions Program (RHPP)/Professional Certificate
in Health Disparities, the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and The CACTIS
Foundation.

Building on six years of experience as founders of the Maricopa County
Collaboration on Concussions in Domestic Violence (MC3DV), the initiative is underway to
engage, educate, and execute a program with community/retail pharmacies in rural Arizona to
address the issue of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), including traumatic brain injuries, which
often result from these events.

This initiative will establish rural community pharmacies as a
“Safe Zone” for IPV victim conversations and intervention. The Rural Pharmacy Safe Zone
program will engage rural pharmacists, educate the future pharmacy workforce, display
signage, and provide informational material addressing the issue of IPV through Town Halls,
PSAs and handout materials for the victims
